Lexus Hybrid “Out of this World”

M&C SAATCHI ABEL
Lexus “Out of This World”

The Chocolate Tribe both directed and created the ad together with a team of about 15 CGI artists. It’s a story of old vs new, pushing the idea of what the future can hold with a car that is powered by a hybrid engine. Shining a spotlight on the tension that exists between these opposites, positioning Lexus Hybrid as a car that brings together the power of two worlds to create something even better.

A long list of mind boggling and challenging aspects from a mechanical dinosaur constructed of old car and machinery parts, a fantasy jackal in a lush green dense forest, a giant out of water fish, electrical plugs, power chargers, massive light bulbs floating over landscapes and floating cities brought together all the aspects of the car and set the ad apart from the mainstream ads in such a way, that you could not miss it. It was “Out of this World”.

Savanna Jean:Birds

In the fight against over garnished Gin drinks, Savanna decided to bring out their offer to combat the frou-frou of craft Gin. Savanna Jean. The cute little Cape White Eye birds are drawn to our gin drinker’s garnish on his oversized glass, which he soon regrets ordering. Shot in a pre-Covid world, Greg Gray and Helena Woodfine from Romance films approached Chocolate Tribe to create all the CGI birds in post.

Our VFX Supervisor, Rob van den Bragt was on-set to guide the shoot for all the VFX requirements and in just 6 weeks from shoot, we modelled, textured, rigged, animated and composited in the hungry, playful birds. Well done to everyone for bringing these cheeky little birds to life and delivering a very humorous and fun filled advert.

CHICKEN LICKEN
“They Also Crave It”

Chicken Licken – Hotwings – Zezorc

When you put together the creative team from Joe Public and Romance Films, under the direction of Terence Neale, we all get excited and magic happens. Chocolate Tribe collaborated with the team in bringing Chicken Licken’s latest creation to life. The project kicked of with our concept design team, bringing Zezorc, the friendly alien (and his “hangry” alter-ego) to life. It was vital for us to create an alien we could all connect with instantly.

Once the design was locked, and the 3D character was modelled, textured and rigged, we spend a lot of time crafting every moment in animation.

The over 2 minutes long commercial takes you on the eventful journey of Zezorc and his earthling adoptive family. From camping in the dark woods to shopping for a new mailbox, Zezorc remains on a quest for something more. The story of our dear little friend makes you love our little wing craver, even though he has some issues controlling his hangry spurts. It was 3 months of pure animation fun and we absolutely can’t wait to create more adventures with Zezorc. What a galactic joy this was!

“Human Searchbar”

The production was shot in Bulgaria where Chocolate Tribe’s Rob van den Bragt was the on-set supervisor The Tribe added various building set extensions, CGI birds, huge spit flaps walls and paper animations, snow and enhanced multiple shots.

A fully blue screen set was through the magic of post production converted into a massive animated split flap wall and various paper simulations were added to the shots to enhance the volume of papers falling from above. This was truly a unique project that Chocolate Tribe got the opportunity to work on and it was an amazing collaboration with Tristan Holmes and Star Films.

“I am what I Hear”

Chocolate Tribe worked with the talented team of Glassworks Barcelona and German director duo Dvein on this out of the ordinary series of ads for Audible. 3D scans were made of the actor’s heads, rigged in Maya and we then precisely matchmoved ever nuance of motion of their heads.

Dvein then crafted amazing animated facial features with Glassworks to represent each person’s distinct alter-ego.

Big John Mjohnana

Chocolate Tribe was tasked with the visual effects and conceptual art design on this adventurous project. They Shoot Films and Joe Public teamed up with us in the beginning stages to create a realistic look and feel for the year 1650.

Our VFX SupervisorRob van den Bragt managed on-set supervision to ensure that all elements that were needed matched the vision of the director, Grant De Sousa. With the extensive amount of intricate detail of the creatures displayed on screen we used a combination of stock footage and in-house CGI to create the black panther, whale and shark.

Allan Gray “Father’s Share”

“Fathers Share”

The TVC, titled Father’s Share, is set in 1950s South Africa. It tells the story of a family guided by a ‘disciplined, and seemingly punitive’ father over a period of five decades. The TVC shows a father asking his children for a portion of their earnings throughout their lives.

Chocolate Tribe got involved early in the development process and worked closely with director, Peter Pohorsky and producer Ben Kaufman, to research and propose ways to bring to life the early days of the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s in South Africa. We worked with production designer Riccardo Pugliese and where needed created various 2d and 3d matte paintings to enhance and extend the sets.

“Still A Beer”

Director Peter Pohorsky from Plank Film brings us the new Castle “Free” commercial where a whole stadium goes instantly quiet when Bobby Skinstad orders an alcohol free beer. The ad was a collaboration between Bladeworks and Chocolate Tribe to bring the ad in record time to the screen.

The stadium, filmed without any crowd for the majority of shots, was filled through the use of CGI crowds added in post. A short making-of follows the ad for a short sneak peek behind the scenes.
